I am thinking about purchasing The Lenscoat Bodyguard Pro cover for my camera body and a cover for my 400 f5.6. Protecting my equipment from scratches will be nice, but will the lens coat protect my lens from the elements? The Naturescapes store states that the Bodyguard Pro will protect your camera, but doesn't say anything lenses. Has anyone had experience using the lens coat in rain or snow?

I use mine all of the time on a 500 VR in rain and snow. I've checked underneath from time to time and I've never moisture underneath it. I've removed the covers after a year of having them in place and everything is as clean as the day I put it on underneath.

Neoprene is rather tough for water to get through although I'd certainly watch it if it were a soaking rain. Also, all of the components have edges so water entrainment is always possible there is it's really wet I suppose.

It won't do much in the way of keeping water out of critical areas in a downpour or anything like that so I would not rely on these as a raincoat but more as a means of protecting your lens from scratches and minor bumps.

Josh- I have all my lenses covered with Lenscoat. They will NOT protect your lenses from rain or snow as Todd has mentioned. In addition to the lenscoat covers, I use rain hoods from http://www.fotosharp.com .These hoods are waterproof, snow proof, and are very light and inexpensive. They are designed to cover the camera body as well. I use the "white" fabric covers as they are slightly transparent so you can see the lens controls through the cover.

I use a think tank hydrophobia when I know I will be out in the rain.. especially during football season.
