I am looking to replace a tripod that was stolen and would like to purchase a good quality CF tripod that would be 3.5 lbs or less, 24" or less when folded, 3 or 4 sections, 48" or taller w/o column extended and can carry a load of at least 11 lbs. I know the Gitzos are the best, but the price is more than I want to pay right now. I have a heavier Gitzo and an Induro, both excellent, but too large/heavy to take in luggage or in a back pack. I shoot with a D300 and longest lens is the Nikon 80-400mm. Any advice?

This is a discontinued model and we have one left - Perfect for your specifications and while it is a Gitzo tripod it is much more reasonable than a CF one and every bit as good. There is another discussion in the forum regarding these models. Again, this is the last one and there will be new models coming soon at (one can assume) a higher price. I personally own and use a the 3 section equivalent.

I have used the Feisol CF tripods in the past but the Gitzo's are clearly superior and clearly more expensive.

Greg,
I really appreciate your advice/suggestion. I seriously considered it and decided to look for the 3-section model you use. Found one elsewhere and have made a purchase. I figure, if you are using it, it must be good. It was also a bit cheaper than the 4-section model, though also a bit bulkier. In the end, it seems perfect for my needs. Again, thanks.

Greg, Well, I have had a message from the seller and it turns out they were offering a tripod for sale that they no longer stocked. So, I have made that purchase of the GT2941 from NatureScapes shop. Thanks for your advice. I'm REALLY lucky nobody grabbed this before I could get back to the Shop = )
