A close encounter.  Whilst in the woods, I spotted this Dragon Fly sun bathing in the last of the season's sunny days before its own season expired.  Rather foolishly, the fly thought to share the sunspot.  (it did survive, and scarpered off sharply when it realised its predicament...  :D).

Nikon D7100 and 105 2.8 Micro Nikkor.  1/2000 F8.  ISO 640.  (took the D7100 instead of the Z7II for its crop factor).  October 5th....

Great setting and a fine capture of the dragonfly.

A fine image, David- love the texture on the log.

Interesting interaction, Dave. Some dragonflies survive the cold rigours of winter by hibernating in sheltered spots. Hope this one was as fortunate.

Nice one!

Cool interaction and capture, Dave. Really nice detail in the larger version. The log is a nice touch too- adds texture and interest.

Wonderful shot and great work getting close enough with the 105mm. I find it hard to approach dragonflies that closely.
The 100-400 works to some extend but I really hope Nikon comes up with a 4/200 Z S Micro lens soon.

Agree on the comment about the ability to get close with that 105...nicely done.
A very brave fly...
