After seeing Gavin's unusual rainbow in Landscapes, I wanted to show this close view of one I saw in Vermont yesterday. Apparently a lot of rainbows appeared around the state. Could only get a partial view with 100-400 lens. But I was interested to see a double purple  stripe separated at the bottom and little or no red at the top. The sun was shining through the center part. .
This rainbow was the result of a brief downpour and only lasted about 2-3 minutes.
Will also post the whole thing in T&C taken with an iphone.

Please click for a better view of the colors.

Very cool Cindy...you got a great image of this.
It's called a supernumerary rainbow.

Wow- thanks, John. I had no idea how many variants there are, and that this is one of them. Much appreciated explanation.
