Was shooting with some visiting overseas friends.
Find it hard to shoot handhold with a long macro lens and get a more natural rendering even with some fill flash.
But here's one not too bad (I think)

90D, 180Canon,AP, 1/60 sec, f11, iso1250, 2nd curtain -1 2/3 ETTL diffused flash slight crop, Photopea.

Even though this was not a colourful butterfly, hope it presents a nice view in its own right? Busy background too....

Comments welcomed.

Excellent capture of the butterfly, nice detail from wing tip to wing tip.

Darren, I don't think the background is at all too busy, in fact, it looks very natural. The toughest exposure is always something that is very dark and white. I use lightroom for processing, and bringing up the shadows often does a pretty good job helping details in dark colors. Curious of you tried something like that?

I think it is quite stunning with it's black and white markings. Nothing ordinary about it to my eye. My only wish is that there wasn't a hole in the leaf next to the right wing. Minor nit, and can be fixed if you tend to do such things. I don't mind the background otherwise. Lovely shot of a striking butterfly.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking a look and offering your views....they are quite educational for me....

Hi Gene. I did use Levels to adjust the Shadows. Probably could have lightened the dark areas even further for a more granulated (?) look....but I thought this best represented what I saw with my naked eyes.....will try Lightroom in future....thanks.

Hi Cynthia, thanks. Agree about the hole in the leaf. Sometimes I do patch it up via software.....and hoping no one notices lol....

Thanks all ..keep shooting!
