Many people are familiar with this flower from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical / film with Julie Andrews "The sound of music" - with little or no idea what "Edelweiss" actually looks like...we went to the Engadin mainly to see some of these alpine flora again...and were very fortunate to see a number of beautiful groups.

Beautiful grouping and shot Sinuhe. I suspect there is a lot of truth in your thoughts referencing the sound of music and Edelweiss. Have a lovely WE.

Thanks Dave - I actually sent the photo to some friends - and sure enough they were familiar with the song - but had no inkling of what an Edelweiss was.....;)

Lovely image of the group in nice light - the inner florets are fascinating.

How wonderful to see them live like this. Closest I've come to seeing one is a flattened version (dried) in a necklace I have. Hardly any resemblance. The song fits the flower so beautifully. Thanks for sharing the real thing! (Yeah, Carol, now I can't stop singing the song either!)

Thank you Tom - one really needs to inspect these little flowers up close to see their true beauty.

Thank you Cynthia - my pleasure - it's been years since we've seen such an abundance of alpine flora again.
