Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moth

Every year I try to make time to take a trip to look for Broad-bordered Bee Hawk-moths. They love nectaring on these blue Viper’s Bugloss flowers but don’t linger very long at any one flower, preferring to dart off just as you’ve focussed on them!

Oh Yes - they certainly do buzz around but you caught this one beautifully, Clive! I remember these glorious VB flowers everywhere when I was a child, not so many around now it seems.

It is less common Carol, in line with many other native wildflowers. We are lucky to live near the very sandy and dry Norfolk Breckland where it’s still reasonably plentiful. It needs disturbed soil to flourish though so happily some of the forestry tracks have their sides scarified.

I love this image so richly colored and detailed, an absolutely difficult shot to make, you did it masterfully Clive.
I gave up to resume the Spirotromba precisely because of the speed with which they pass from one flower to another
