On a late Fall walk though the woods several years ago I came across this dormant wasp nest. Except for the few brown leaves that hung on around it, the monotone looking scene was a reminder that Fall was quickly coming to an end.

That's a beauty Warren. Love the textures and leafy setting. Excellent composition. We see them in our woods too, but most often they are not so beautifully intact.

What a beautiful nest, I would say a work of art of nature, beautiful autumn shades in this very pleasant composition.

Two days later I went back with a step ladder to take it from a slightly different angle and it was far from intact.  An animal or bird had torn it apart, presumably for a meal.

A finely detailed image of the nest - the pristine condition is remarkable.

My sister had one of these in her garden this spring/ summer - and all its inhabitants. They zoomed around her while she tended her beloved roses, and she never got stung once. At the end of summer they departed and she was able to remove the nest. Your shot shows the amazing structure these expert builders create!
