Leek Orchid Prasophyllum elatum

A leek orchid from yesterday near home, quite a big orchid, the scape in this was about 600mm and the flower section shown about 200mm, this species can grow up to 1 meter tall and it is quite fragrant.
This shot shows the power of using a 600mm equivalent lens as this flower was poorly positioned surrounded by shrubs and dead branches.  The narrow field of view allowed positioning the camera to look through a narrow gap and keep distracting elements out of the composition.

The long lens was just the thing to simplify the background, the background contrasts nicely with the intricate flower details.

The long lens did wonders for the bg. Excellent image.

Seems a lot of our native orchids are like that, I see very few that are not.

Fascinating orchid - great use of telephoto lens - wonderful image.
I'm really enjoying this series - learning about new plants while ours burrow away for winter hibernation.
Look forward to the next posts!
