Flying Duck Orchid Caleana Major
Flying ducks have started appearing in the bush behind home, have found quite a few colonies starting to come into flower. The flower is upside down and the duck bill it the labellum which is sensitive and snaps shut trapping the pollinator, a male wasp that attempts to mate with labellum. The wasp has to crawl out past the pollen to escape. This is a 14 image stack in Helicon Focus, I'm just trying it out at the moment and seems to work reasonably well and very speedy on the new system. Can anyone suggest a detailed guide on using the software, mostly it is straight forward, but I haven't found a good way to deal with out of focus bands on the lower component of overlapping objects. The detail is not there on the individual images as the the upper part is out of focus when the lower part is in focus and masks that band off. Helicon provide a guide but it's not that detailed.
