A few years ago I found a road kill of an intact male Rose Breasted Grosbeak. I initially pulled off the road to look to see if it was just injured and in need of assistance.  When I realized it was dead I saw the underwing and was amazed at the beautiful pastel looking colors. I took some time to lay out the wing as flat as possible to get this image of a part not often seen of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. I consider this image a sort of silver lining to an otherwise sad reason for the opportunity.

PS:  Editors, I wasn't sure if this belonged in Birds or in Macro so I placed it in the Birds Gallery for now.

An interesting image provided by somewhat tragic circumstances.   Love the details.  Personally, I feel this is more suited to the Flora and Macro gallery as it is such an intense close up.

Understandably, an opportunity not to be missed to record details not normally available. Done well.

Moved to Flora and Macro Gallery.

This is beautiful, I had no idea they had such pretty under-wings. I like the composition with layers of colors and types of feathers.

Nicely composed, neat color and texture combination.

Fascinating detail.
Thoughts to a slight crop from the right to eliminate the softer plumage?

I would never have guessed which bird this came from, Warren! Amazing macro image.

Interesting, when I saw the thumbnail I thought it might be a Spoonbill or Flamingo. Great details and composition.

Beautiful close-up- you made a lovely memorial to the departure of this pretty bird. So soft and delicate..and sad.

Thanks John. Yes I had several thoughts and tried various versions.  I tried just going off more to the left while shooting it but the feathers weren't as nice, I tried a slightly more cropped version, and I tried squaring it off but none of them had the same appeal to me that this one does. You are absolutely correct in that even when I was photographing it I was thinking of this specific issue.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I fully understand your dilemma.
Sometimes, cropping/moving just doesn't work...I have a similar situation (image) which I will post here in the future.

Amazing closeup, and composed very well too. Feel sorry for the Grosbeak.
