Sadly the Ophrys season is drawing to a close, as spring makes way for summer.
BUT - what a year it's been - seldom have we seen such abundance and opulence!
The highlight of our excursions was the discovery of a very rare migrant, Ophrys-bertolonii sub benancencis, normally only found south of the Alps in Italy.

Hopefully the small colony will be protected and allowed to expand.
We look forward to our visit next year and rekindling our acquaintance. Hopefully it will be a longterm affair - after all some orchids easily reach ages of a century or more.

Orchids are quirky because what may show up one year may lay dormant the next. In any event you did a great job getting some wonderful images. This one is a real beauty. Terrific series.

Thanks - glad you enjoyed the series.

You are absolutely correct about their quirky behaviour - very responsive to seasonal changes - winter too dry, spring too hot - and it's a no show.

We were very fortunate this year.

What a gorgeous finale to your orchid adventure. Just amazing that you found this rarity and were able to get a fine capture.
