The first of our native orchid species to bloom this year!

Very fortunate that these rare specimens can still be viewed in their natural habitat.

Composite image merged from video file.

This really needs to be seen enlarged to appreciate the clarity and detail. Beautiful shot of a lovely specimen.

As Cindy said - the detail in the larger view is exquisite!  Another wonderful orchid, and I'm amazed it comes out so early in Switzerland - I obviously have no idea about the climate at this time of year, as I thought it would still be too cold. :)

Carol.
These small orchids seem to blossom shortly after the snow has melted - and we've missed capturing them on numerous occasions - as we arrived too late.
The base of the Rhone Valley in the Valais is unusually warm for an Alpine region - frosty mornings - mild afternoons - surrounded by snow capped mountain peaks. The apricot trees were in full blossom during our visit.

Nice looking orchid, you do need to look at the larger image to see it properly though, a lot is lost in the 800px image.

Thanks for stopping by Chris - appreciate the feedback - concur about the low res image - hence the link to the Flickr file.
Hope you're doing OK with the current flooding!
