[font=Verdana, sans-serif]Its purple color flower is 30-50 mm at top diameter. Vivid crimson colored Stigma and Styles are collected from the flower early in the morning and dried. It is used as seasoning and coloring agent for food. In India Jammu & Kashmir is the only state where the Saffron is cultivated.Its flowering time is mid October in J&K. The other main producer countries are Iran, Spain, France, Austria. Saffron is popularly known as "Kesar" in India.Quality Saffron is depends upon land, climate and technique of plucking of stigma with style. Local market rate ranges from Rs. 1800/- to Rs 2500/- in Indian currency per 10 gm of Saffron.[/font]
