Weedy Sea Dragon  Phyllopteryx taeniolatus

From my dive on the weekend a weedy sea dragon on a dive site just inside Sydney's Botany Bay.  These sea horse relatives are endemic to Australia's southern coastline, the population in Botany Bay is threatened by the proposal to build a cruise terminal in the bay, the required dredging would kill them off throughout the bay and it would take many years for the population to recover.

What an interesting species, and a shame to see it threatened. Beautiful detail and color – well done.

I love the sea horses but the weedy and the leafy sea dragons are so amazing! Beautiful image of this little weedy, Chris. Superb!

Love this! A wonderful bright vision...and a sad tale. I hope they survive and thrive. Such a charming little creature- your photo is iconic- maybe you could publish it in their defense!
