These are our largest sun orchids, normally about 18-24 inches tall and sowing a lot more flowers. Due to drought they are much shorter with less flowers, but easier to photograph this year.

Nikon D5600 with 40mm macro lens, f13, ISO 200, 1/80s, diffused flash, gorilla tripod.

Nice orchid, not ixioides I'm guessing maybe T. arista based on your description, great background for this one.

Thanks Chris.

I am very happy with my macro results since upgrading my D5300 to the D5600. The touch screen focus is a huge help for me as I can sit on my stool and set up the shots and fire off the shots using the Nikon app on my smart phone. For an old lady riddled with arthritis it is a big improvement and means I can keep going with my macros. I can get focus at 100mm from the front of the lens with the 40mm lens so I can get close to the small flowers with it.

The flowers look beautiful in the image, lovely soft light from your flash.

This is truly lovely- beautifully composed and set off nicely with a soft background. I love that you can do this, as you described, with various tools and adaptations. I didn't know you could use a smart phone to do this-will have to try it. Feeling sympathetic vibes here! Keep up the good work.
