I love the face-on view and her(?) “pose.” How big is this spider? It looks like you nailed the DOF - the surroundings are busy, but the light and the color contrast make the subject stand out. This is very different from what I generally strive for, but it really works for me.
Good light,
Craig

Thanks for the comments. This is quite a large spider, females (like this one) having a leg span of up to 10cm. They are common in gardens in South Africa and often come into houses. The venom is of no medical significance. I agree absolutely that the background is a bit busy, but as you say, it does somehow work. I did not want to move the subject to a more suitable location because it was already quite stressed at having been disturbed.

Neat pose, and lots of great detail. The setting is fine, but softer light would be best, fine as is.

Quite a dynamic presentation. Although busy, I like the textures and head-on view. Works for me!

Love the head-on view. The busy background doesn't bother me. composition works well. Looks menacing!
