Mourning Cuttlefish  Sepia plangon

Diving at Shiprock Aquatic Reserve in Port Hacking south of Sydney on the weekend, came across these mourning cuttlefish, there were 2 pairs initially, in this shot the male in the middle is defending the female from the advances of the other male at top.  These small cuttlefish are common in estuaries around Sydney.

When I saw your title, I thought they were 'mourning' the death of the third one! Fascinating behaviour capture showing this competition for the female, Chris. Excellent image!

It's a bit of an unfortunate name really - but that is what they are known by.
