D750, Sigma 150 f/2.8 OS, 1/60, f/4, ISO 640, in-camera fill flash

I'm really new to macro- in fact this is one of my first attempts with my new Sigma 150. I have a lot to learn, but I'm really having fun entering a new world. I find I have to remember the whole plant when I get so close to a small part of it! In this case- easy i.d., but not always the case.  :)
It was almost dark when I took this shot.  I liked the heart shape it created.

I like the comp, and the bg sets off the green fronds beautifully.
Good light,
Craig

The heart is wonderful - have fun with your new lens! The light looks really good, remarkable if it was getting dark.

Thanks, Tom. I did use the little flash on my 750-seemed to do the trick.

Sweet!  Well spotted and very nicely done, Cindy.  You're going to have great fun with your Sigma 150 and no telling what you might find out there in your little slice of heaven...

I’m sorry to be the critic here(despite the EP), but the distracting out of focus foreground is not desirable, in my book. I would make the heart occupy 2/3 or more of the frame, since it is the focus of attention. Even in the thumbnail, it was apparent to me. Otherwise, more DOF(preferable) would be the alternative.

A beautiful macro image, Cindy. Joe makes a good proposal on cropping. The heart shape is amazing! Congrats on the EP.

Hey, Joe- always glad to hear from the other side, so to speak.  I think you have a very good point about cropping this.  Thanks for your honest appraisal.

Love the heart shape. I like the placement of the heart as it is. Would have liked to see the entire heart shape in sharp focus. Very artful. Congratulations on EP!
