Gorgonian

A Gorgonian grows in a split in the reef at Barren's Hut an open ocean dive site outside of Port Hacking south of Sydney at a depth of about 25m.  Also visible are sea tulips a type of tunicate or sea squirt which are filter feeders pumping water in and out to gather food.  The sea tulips are covered with a colourful encrusting sponge.

Another fascinating peep into your underwater world, Chris! As I shall never venture there, its great to be able to see these scenes through your eyes.
