Wow- great details! Excellent setting. I went to the site you mention here to see if I can find my next submission-thanks!
Did you use a tripod? Just starting to do some macro-looking for a lens, etc.

Bruce, Terrific photo. Have you tried focus stacking function with the 850?

Great exposure, detail, and BG, I really love the lines radiating out. Personally, I’d cut off a bit of the right, getting the main subject off center, but that’s to personal taste - a fine image as is.

Thanks for the kind words, Cynthia. I sometimes use a tripod for macro, but not on this shot.

I used my Nikkor 105 mm micro lens for this. I picked up this lens (used) for a good price right after I made the switch from Canon to Nikon. I think it is a great lens but I could use more focal length. If I had to do it all over again I think I would get either the Sigma 150 mm macro or the Sigma 180 mm macro. Both have excellent reviews.

Thanks, Gene.

I have tried the "automatic" focus stacking with the D850. It works very well but I have not been successful in using it in the field with moving live subjects.

Some of the shots I see in this gallery are taken using focus stacking on live subjects, in some cases stacking of many images. I have not yet figured out how the subject is made to remain stationary.
