Not thrilled with the background, (concrete,) but at least it's not distracting.

Hi

The backdrops fine and the composition is lovely - I like the use of the perch/plant - very nice overall

My only little nit would be ideally I would like to have a sharper look to the wings - perhaps a bit of movement? I would have thoughts at this image size F8 would probably have covered the wings in regards to DOF a little better; or maybe they were just held at an awkward angle that not really coming over in the image; it happens

Either way an image I have enjoyed seeing - it works; top compositional marks from me

All the best
Matthew

Thanks Matthew; you echoed many of my thoughts; I don't think there was much motion, and I noticed that some of the blossoms, slightly more distant, are sharper than the wing tips, so I think I blew the focus.

Lovely butterfly and perch. As for the wing sharpness, it’s probably the forewing position/angle.

I like your choice to include the oof parts of the plant in the background and use selective focus on the butterfly area. Click on the image to see the uncompressed view and you can see that both the body of the bf and flowers immediately behind it are sharp, so that would suggest to me that it was slightly moving its forewings, rather than a mistake in your focus Craig. The overall frame is lovely.

Nice butterfly and settiing, When I'm doing butterflies with a 300-400mm lens I often stop down to f9-11 range for a touch more DOF. A lot of butterflies hold their wings up a little so some extra DOF come in handy.
