Intense is another one from my portfolio.  This was shot at two times life-size under nearly perfect conditions (hardly any wind on an overcast afternoon) at Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC.  I loved the hair on the lateral petals and the dramatic lighting.

powerful image - interesting composition.
Any chance of retaining detail in the whites?

Vivid colors and contrasts, with a molten look - lots of impact. I had the same thought as Swissblad about the highlights, they look recoverable.

Hi

A nice composition and fun lighting that add to it - I like

As mentioned the whites look a little overly bright, but this is prob just a monitor to monitor thing

All the best
Matthew

All,
With regard to the whites, after examining both the RAW and the PSDs, there appears to be a couple of factors at work.  1) because of the extremely shallow DOF, some of the tops of the lateral petal hairs aren't completely sharp so there isn't much detail there to extract.  2) conversion to JPEG seems to have pushed some areas of the whites just a tad brighter.  I might be able to calm those areas down a little with some selective masking and a curves or levels adjustment, but they aren't as bad in the PSDs.

Thanks for the comments and for looking.  8)

Regards,

Steven

Striking colors and composition-I'm not much bothered by the whites, given the overall intensity. Like this a lot.
