Red Rock Cod  Scorpaena cardinalis

From my dive today at Bare Island near the entrance to Botany Bay.  Visibility was quite good for a change.  These fish grow quite slowly and have many 12 venomous dorsal spines and others around the head.  They sit motionless on the bottom and are cryptically coloured in the light at depth, only showing up bright red under the 5000K light from the strobe.

A face with character - love the colors and the setting.
