I know this topic has been discussed here before but can not find anything with search. I want to frame some images printed on an Epson 3880 without glass or plexi. I know that there are some varnishes that are being used and some films. Does anyone have an opinion on this or suggestions.

Thanks you.

I like to matt and frame prints without glass. I hate the reflections in glass. Once the the print is mounted on a backing board I use ATG double faced tape to permanently attach the matt to the print that was dry mounted to the backing board. Then the matt and print are sprayed with Clear Jet Type A2000 Semi-gloss finish that UV and water resistant. You can't believe how much lighter the framed print are than those framed with glass

Reflective surfaces and art, not a good match. I use nothing, and place matted and framed prints in places with great viewing light and minimal environmental risks (no food, smoke, temperature extremes, schizophrenics, politicians, etc).

Breathing Color makes a satin/flat finish (called Timeless) that I use on my canvases. It can be either sprayed on or rollered on, It dries with a flat finish with no shine. I see no reason it couldn't be used on prints as well. I would dry mount the prints first, in case the coating caused a little waviness while drying.

I have had good durability on glass less framing using Hannemule Etching Paper. That said, eventually your print will take a hit, be it too much sun, carbonated beverage spray, a sneeze and the like. I consider the print somewhat sacrificial and make two of them, one I keep in a box.

Have you thought about using an encaustic process?
