You mention a very important attribute Frederick when it comes to your own printing. A person must determine what is "good enough" and that will answer the question of whether to produce your own or have others do it. It really is just that simple.

I have read that some people who live in very dry places have problems with clogging more than people who live in less dry places.

A friend kept a heater on the floor underneath his printer and had clogging problems. I suggested a humidifier instead. He had no more clogs.

Yes. With Epson printers in particular, maintaining a decent level of humidity in the printer work room can help things a lot. It can reduce head clogs. And it can also ease some paper handling problems by ensuring that sheet media is not bone dry and therefore less pliable as the printer is feeding it.
