As ink for the Epson 3880 is extremely expensive in Europe i came across this offer. A complete set for £320. It states ink cartridges are dated 2011-2013 but it comes with a full year warranty. How risky is it to buy this ink set given the dates on the cartridges?

Thanks

A couple of my cartridges in my 4880 (same inks) are dated 2010 and 2011 and they're printing just fine. Occasionally I will eject all of them one at a time and gently shake them and then put them back in the printer. As long as they're all in their original plastic sealed bags when you purchase them, you shouldn't have any problems.

If the inks are still sealed in the original packaging, it's not a great risk to use them. Do like Mark says and very gently shake them from time to time. A related thing to think about is how long it will take you to print through the inks. But generally I think Epson's "use by" dates are extremely conservative. I'm still in the process of finishing off a couple dated 2009 in my 4880, and they are fine in every way that I can tell. :)
