I just purchased an Epson 3880 (refurbished from Adorama), I have successfully printed several large prints using the rear feed. Tonight I attempted to print on 4X6 Epson paper via the auto paper feed on top but I cannot get it to work. I get the Paper Load Error every time. Most times it does not even load at all, other times when I reload the paper it pulls one sheet all the way through without printing it or it pulls it about halfway then it shows the paper jam error. I have turned the printer off and on about 20 times and rechecked my settings in the CS5 print window .... I am about to scream! Any ideas would be most welcome. I am thinking there is something wrong with feed mechanism and I will have to ask for a replacement printer.

I have had similar frustrations with trying to feed single sheets of smaller paper. Have you tried to put a small stack in the printer instead of just a single sheet?

Yep, tried that, same problem. Interestingly the auto feed works with 8.5 X 11 inch paper. I don't have any 5X7 paper to try but it will not feed the 4X6 correctly.

Are you lying the 4x6 down or standing it up?

Interesting. I feed 4x6 paper as singles or in a stack from the auto feed frequently and have never had a problem with my 3880.

I did try loading the paper in both orientations to no avail. I did turn off the "check paper size" and was able to print but only with one of the 4X6 paper sizes (the one with no bordeless settings) and the print was not straight on the paper. I have tried all the 4X6 paper size choices in the printer settings window in CS5 and also tried setting a custom paper size....no luck.

Problem solved : I restored the factory settings on the printer, turned off check paper size and in the CS5 printer settings chose the 4x6 paper that did not say borderless and it worked correctly. Still not sure what was wrong before and not sure why it won't print borderless 4x6 paper but I was able to get the job done.
