I just got the epson 3880 like a bunch of you because of the sweet rebate, I have a canon pro 9000 printer as well and while on another forum I saw someone talking about using cone ink for their 3880 and that he couldn't tell the difference. I have never been a fan of 3rd party ink even on cheap printers and unless someone has some strong recommendations to using this system or another I won't be trying it. But I was curious if anyone had any experience with this system because maybe it works great and I would be missing out :) ...

the website is http://www.conecolor.com/

3rd party inks may void your warranty.

The Cone ink systems are highly regarded. I don't use 3rd party inks myself but if I was to do so, Cone would be at the top of my list. Jon Cone is a true digital inkjet pioneer and master printer in his own right, few can approach his level. He's been custom designing inksets for decades, dating back to the IRIS system that was a major opening of the door for digital inkjet cprinting.

Here's a recent article where he talks about his history in B&W inkjet printing:

Visit the business side of Jon Cone go to the blogs, forums and all the dialogue boxes and educate yourself.

Do visit the printer forum on dpreview.com and search for the posts discussing Cone inks. Ditto for the Inkjet Printer forum: nifty-stuff.com.

Presently, I'm using inkjetcarts refill system on my 3880 with excellent results. 2 other equally reliable vendors are InkRepublic (supplies identical carts) and inkjetfly. Each supplies their own inks, you can buy IR's carts and use any of the 2 other vendors ink in them and vice versa. All 3 inks are well received, my color prints equal my OEM color prints and my B&W prints are stunning (to me); originally with the OEM ink and now with my present ink. I do profile all my 'stuff' with my Colormunki, this gave a gentle tuneup over the OEM ink and a 'right on' with my present ink.

Since you are in the US phone him use the live chat--Jon welcomes interaction with us 'guys'!

good luck irv weiner

Check Jon Cone's comments about the threat of warranty voids-the US passed a law forbidding these intimidating actions.

"The act of using a generic ink jet cartridge & ink tanks or refilling an ink jet cartridge & ink tank does not void your warranty."

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and general principles of the Federal Trade Commission Act, a manufacturer may not require the use of any brand of ink (or any other article) unless the manufacturer provides the item free of charge under the terms of the warranty.
