This shot was taken near Emu Bay on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. After an afternoon of shooting some birds, I was on the way back home to the motel and came across this interesting place just as the sun was setting. Despite my best efforts to sink into the thick black mud underneath the salt, I ended up with this (which looks nicer as a bigger print).

EOS5, 28-135 @ ~28mm, f/16, Provia 100F, digital ND grad filter (combination of two exposures, several stops apart), polariser.

What I like the most is the simplicity of this shot, Andrew. The texture of the clouds is a nice foil to the "smoothness" of the ground.
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

The light here is very nice. I would like to see some more texture in the foreground.

I agree with E.J. here. A more interesting foreground leading into the sky would really make this shot.

Nice sky, but the ground doesn't get interesting until you are about 3cm up from the bottom. I'd like something visible that suggests salt. I do like the proportions.

I agree. The light is nice but could use a bit of a FG.
