IT was reaching dark, we had driven to see the whales at Scammons Lagoon and were driving back. As we came to the guard gate, we saw a car pulled to the side and the people had their hands raised. I gunned the car past and got away from something unknown and possibly dangerous. We then continued along the road which wound through the salt pans. I thought that the clouds would block the sun from shining from below the clouds and said we should just drive past. Lillian Roberts thought we should stop, so I did. Then magic happened. The whole sky began to glow. The sun peeked from below the edge of the clouds far to the west. I did a panoramic and the eastern sky while Lillian did the western sky. Her shot is awsome. We both had our images printed from 35mm to 30"x45" and they look great. Here is what I saw, the eastern sky with its magenta glow and the full moon. I know I used my Nikon F5, but I don't remember the lens or settings. So when someone with you suggests it might work, listen and don't just refuse to stop.

Spectacular shot, Steve! The colors, the reflection, the composition...all masterfully done. The only thing I see is a bit of darkening at the upper corners.
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Wow what great colors!! Very nice!

I know I'm picky, but I struggle a bit with the reflection in the water being significantly lighter than the sky...

Steve, the colors are wonderful! The composition is nice, with the moon and the water leading me into the scene. I'm also seeing some darkening in the upper corners that maybe can be dodged a bit.

You know I love this shot. Still the nicest sunset in my memory, and one of the nicest memories too. :) I'd forgotten you were still shooting Nikon on that trip! I also don't know where that hint of vingnetting in both upper corners comes from, it's not in the print is it?

Maybe I'll post the actual sunset tomorrow.

I know that you were trying to get the moon into this image, but I think that it is stronger if you crop it from the top.
Nice as is too.
