This is from August 2000. It is outside of a town called Sapa, in Northern Vietnam. We were researching indigenous music from the H'moung people group. On one of my (many) stops on the hike, this was around me. I'm sorry that the image really doesn't do the location justice.

again full idiot mode.

Unfortunately this was taken in the afternoon, but that was when we were hiking. My main question is the cropping I did. I cropped a good portion on the rice patty in the foreground and I think my camera was having difficulties as there was a scratch on the negative along the top. Any way I cropped the top a little as well to get rid of a line across the top.

Love the foreground green in this one, Justin. Bravo!
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Looks like a marvelous place. Love the colors in the foreground and the composition works as is but I would also consider a bit more of the foreground. You might want to select the background and sky and try to boost the contrast a bit. Should make it pop a bit more. Also a tweak with curves might bring a little more detail into the trees. Sounds like you had a very interesting experience.

One usually gets too much contrast and washed out color when shooting mid-day but you have neither of them here. The saturation is strong and the contrast is not objectionable. Perhaps it's because you shot with negative film and I'm guessing with the high humidity of Vietnam there's always a bit of haze to soften the light.

I have no complaints with this photo. I like it. The compostion is well done. You have these nice lines leading into the center of the photo.

Good job.

I have to agree, I don't think the "harsh" light is hurting this image at all, below the horizon. The suggestion to work a bit with the sky is a good one, as this one part of the shot is a little bit hot.

I believe this is the first landscape image I have seen of Vietnam. Very interesting. Please note that maximum size for a panoramic is 800x400 - this exceeds that a bit.

oops, sorry I was just looking at the 800 side when I posted. I have reposted the image (in the original post) at the correct size.

A fascinating photo that really pulls me in. I like the composition and don't know how to tell you to do anything differently, but I would like to see more detail in the darkest shadow areas.

I think that you did well. The scene is very lush and inviting. I like the curve of the grass and the variety of angles and textures in this image.
