I know some of you might recognize this post from NPN a while back, but I decided to wipe off the dust and repost over here.

Enjoy!

Great light and texture...I like this a lot. The ND grad works well here, i.e. its use is not obvious.

Very nice; like the colors as well as the composition. (Hadn't seen it before.)

Heather-

Good question. The 'racetrack' in Death Valley is a dry lake bed, and has many rocks of varying sizes and weights, that are pushed across the lake bed in times of infrequent rain. Nobody knows exactly for sure, but this is the best guess. The particular rock in the image is about 6" tall, and about 1 foot across. Not that big, but big enough to make you wonder about how much force it took to move across the lake bed floor.

One of my most favorite places on earth.

You really need to go there at some point, Heather. A magical place. It isn't easy to get to, as it is a 2 or 3 hour jeep ride from the nearest paved road. It is well traveled, and it isn't exactly a secret, but it is an amazing place. I have been there a handful of times, and each time the light has been extraordinary. Perhaps because I only travel to Death Valley in February thru April, but I will take it any way I can get it.

Like this! Very unusual to me. The mass of texture is amazing. Here's a picky for you though, and I only say this because you dusted it off, but I think I detect some actual dark dust spots on the UL that were missed!

Good point, Juli. Actually, those spots are actually other rocks on the dry lakebed. When printed very very large, thhe rocks are definitely apparent. Gotta love 4x5!
