Canon 10D, 112mm f/8 @ 117sec, ISO 100

On the way back (well, sorta) from a quick trip to Death Valley back in April, we headed over to Big Sur and stopped by Pfeiffer Beach for sunset.

This is the inland side of a rather large rock along the beach that is this beach's most prominent feature. I spent a couple of trips staring at this area of the beach, giving up, and finding other things to shoot.

This time, the waxing moon gave enough light at the very end of the shoot to come up with a semblance of an idea...

I like this a lot, but have to laugh at the choice of shutter speed. It's the first time I've seen a speed of exactly 117 seconds - but it certainly works here.

I love the light coming through the rocks and the mist on the water. I would crop the top down to just above the bright rock on the left. The interest in the photo is in the light through the rocks and in the mist and mass of rock at the top has the potential to overpower those.

Very nice! I love the light and water. I'd have guessed this to be sunrise or sunset if you hadn't described the circumstances. The comp works as-is for me :)

This worked out very well. I like the unusual colors. Great exposure too.

Excellent shot!!! I like the way the long exposure has misted the water.

Very nice. I love the soft effect of the water. The only thing that bothers me here is the brightness of the triangular shaped rock on the right. I would burn this in a bit.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

The 117 second exposure was from bulb-mode and pulling the exposure time out of EXIF info. :) It was actually a 1min exposure that I decided to extend a bit...and it was still a tad dark, requiring a levels in PS.

Beautifully done, Steve! Love the lighiting and the mist like look to the water.
