With my excitement having just purchased a used Nikon D1 I rushed out after the first big snowstorm to take some images. This is one of my first ten digital SLR shots. This is more an emotional image for me because I don't see the content as much as I do how I felt when I was there.

I enjoyed the feedback I got on the last image posted here and appreciate people giving me something to think about the next time I'm in the field with my landscape lens on. :) Please feel free to do the same here, I'm learning a lot and that's what it's all about!

Digital capture with Nikon D1, 80-200mm f2.8, handheld.

I love pictures of snow. When I lived in NYC, I used to go skiing in Vermont. It brings back memories.

I'd crop a little bit off of the bottom so you just have the snowy grass at the bottom.

Gorgeous shot, Heather...maybe a slight boost in contrast?
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Heather,
I can appreciate the emotional side of a photo like this (having just started playing with my 10D). It definetly insills a feeling of coold! In addition to the suggestions already made, I think a crop of the botm & the right side, eliminating the trees that are cut of at the top af the image might work?
Thanks for sharring.

Very neat. I would go for a more radical crop though - a vertical of just the right side.

I can't offer any advice Heather, but I can tell you I like this as is. It conveys the wintery feeling very well and makes me want to go off walking to see what's behind those trees :) Well done.

Heather,

Very nice and I agree with Dan, a little off the bottom.

Simple and effective. One more vote for a bit off the bottom. I would also play with the contrast or curves. Best thing about east coast storms: you get snow and then you get sun. Showing that on the near trees while the back remains more grey would be great. (In the midwest, you get snow and then you get grey; I miss that after-storm sparkle.)
