Cool shot Kerry. Is that frost on the trees? Don't remember it being that frosty...

A very cool shot - perhaps just a slight bit blue.

Ken:

Yes, that is frost. As cold as it was that morning (25 degrees when we left Bergland), I'm surprised you don't remember it. :)

The moderating effect of Lake Superior made it roughly freezing when we got to the Lake of the Clouds, but there was significant frost on all the trees. This shot was taken very shortly after sunrise--the frost on the trees at the highest elevations had melted off at this point, but down in the valley, where the rays of the sun hadn't yet penetrated, frost remained for some time.

That's one reason why there is something of a bluish tinge to this image. I actually performed a significant blue/cyan desaturation before I posted this. The Adobe RGB version is somewhat warmer; the sRGB color remap didn't do the image any favors in that regard. But in any event, I'm reluctant to warm it up much more than its current presentation, because part of the appeal, I think, is the contrast between the splash of naturally warm color in the trees at center-right, and the cool tones elsewhere--the rock, the sky, the endless stretch of frosty trees.

Nevertheless, I welcome additional opinions, so I thank those who have offered them to date and encourage others to weigh in.

Thanks,

--Kerry

Finally getting a chance to see some of your work from the trip. :)

I'd consider cropping out most of the sky if this were my image. I don't think it adds anything to the photo and might even be a bit distracting from the central point--the trees below and rock formation to the right.

I like the scene but want to cast another vote for warming it up. You might want to try Greg's warming filter action that was posted in the digital forum.

Kerry, Very nice!

I think I might have stood on these same rocks years ago while cross-country skiing in the UP.
