Kendlmühlfilzen, Bavaria, Southern Germany

I visited this (restored) moor a few weeks ago. There are thousands of birches.

It wasn't easy to find a composition I liked. When already walking back to the car, I saw this spot.
I wanted to isolate one birch.

I used the 135 Plena wide open at f1.8. I found that even stopping down to 2.8 did not give me the background I wanted.
Here I only focused on the tree. I used a polarizing filter, that gave me much better colours in the leaves on the path.
LR to increase saturation of some colours a bit

I am getting a bit obsessed with the Plena :-)
I almost always shoot it wide open.
Never had anything wider than 2.8 before.
It almost seems thatNikon used some black magic to make this lens, it's that good. But also dangerous as it  sometimes makes we want to use it when another lens really would be better.
Hopefully this here works.

Z8, tripod, 1.8/135 Plena, f1.8, ISO 64, 1/100, polarizing filter.

A fine scene captured here, Markus. Nice contrasting colours with those of the birch trees, against the surrounding colours of the forest.

I like the luscious feel and look to the image, coupled with the lovely rich colours. I would keep going with the lens.

Great composition and fall setting, Markus. Sounds like an interesting lens for this kind of image, have fun with it.

This one is great, the OOF is in the background and doesn't overpower the scene.  Very nicely done.

I like the focus on the birch with just enough of the further birch still visible...just right in my view!!!
Surprised though at f1.8 I would have thought the others would be more OOF

I love this, Markus!! You use the Plena to great advantage-I can see why you are obsessed with it. A very artistic approach -so evocative that I just want to be there. I suspect it takes a special talent (which you have), to make this lens work it's magic. Want to see more!!

Maybe because the distance between the trees was longer that it looks like due to the compression of the 135mm telephoto.
Maybe the 1.2/85 or 1.2/50 would have looked differently but I do not own these lenses and I think the composition would be quite different with those.

Sometimes I wish it was even wider like a 1.2/135 but that would make the lens a huge monster.

Not sure if this is talent, I'm just playing around :-)
I am still learning to see scenes that fit this lens. In the past, I probably walked passed many interesting scenes simply because I did not own such a lens.
First I was sceptical but the reviews were so good and when Nikon had a temporary discount her in Germany I decided to buy it and I'm really glad I did.

Still thinking about other wide-open primes like the 1.2/50 or 1.2/85 but so far I think the 135mm often works better due to the narrower angle-of-view.
That being said, there are still rumours about a  1.2/35 S lens. If that comes out and is really sharp wide open then I might be tempted. That would be quite a different lens and I expect it to be another really fun way to learn new ways of seeing things.
Hopefully Nikon releases that lens next year.
