Beautiful sunrise light and cloud on the mystical Arenal volcano in Costa Rica. At 5,358 feet with a perfect conical shape, it remains the country's most famous stratovolcano, last erupting in 2010.

The keen eye might spot the Crested Guan roosting high in the tree!

Wonderful light on that tree Dean. The light and clouds on the volcano counter and balance nicely. Must admit to a dismal failure looking for the Crested Guan.

Baaahaha, yah, at only 800px I can't blame you for not seeing the bird!

Thank you, David!

Lovely sight with the cloudy mist over the top of the volcano. I too failed to see the Crested Guan...there is a sort of bird-like shape up there perhaps, on the right near the top ??? Anyway , a fine view , bird or no. :)

Thank you, Cynthia! The big bird is facing the sun, sitting left of the main trunks below the skyline;))

A lovely scene bathed in beautiful light, Dean.  Yes, I see the Crested Guan with the light catching his brightly coloured throat, and his tail hanging down - but only when I go to your website and look at the larger version.  :)

Thank you, John. The prevalent winds in the country seem to move east to west, the moist air from the Caribbean condensing as it rises in altitude to the central mountain regions.

A typical day sees the volcano visible in the mornings, but quickly socked in with clouds as the temperature rises.

The cloud detail is one of my favourite parts of the image too:))

Great to see it not enshrouded in clouds. Such a perfect cone. Great shot!
