Glaciers retreating from the last ice age scoured and carved away millions of years of sediment, resulting in this valley of badlands in southern Alberta known as Dinosaur Provincial Park.

As one of the richest dinosaur fossil beds in the world, specimens from this park are on display in museums around the globe. Over 58 species and 500 specimens have been unearthed to date.

Interesting info Dean. Can picture the ice age over this, scouring the earth away. Super landscape with lots of interest.

That's really fascinating information, thanks for sharing both the story and this awesome image. Light, shadow and tons of texture and I love the bands of color. A great perspective that really leads you through the whole image. Well done!

Fascinating information. I can still remember the thrill of finding my first fossil and my first flint stone arrow head! What an amazing place, Dean - and as always, your capture of this area is stunning, with the contours, textures and colours in the landscape extending to the distant horizon under that sweet light. A click on the image reveals the true beauty!

A dramatic view- this really shows so well how the glacier went through. An excellent perspective, and thanks for the great story too. As I was scrolling through I noticed that the foreground makes a wonderful abstract in itself, in pano mode. Love all the shapes and textures.

Thanks Carol! It amazes me how paleontologists can see the difference between fossils and the surrounding earth. I wouldn't have a clue what to look for!
