M16 is a southerly target for me and unfortunately, it lies in a light-polluted part of my sky. However, using narrowband filters, I am able to image it. I used Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur filters and mapped the colours to the Hubble palette. M16 is an area of active star formation and the Hubble Telescope image of the central pillars("Pillars of Creation" due to active star formation) was made famous a few years ago. Interestingly, the pillars are thought to have been destroyed in a supernova, but the light won't reach us for another thousand years for us to see it!
A larger field of view will show the eagle with outstretched wings a bit better(head is the brighter area in the middle top), but then you can't see the pillars very well, so this image is a bit of a compromise.
QHY163 monochrome camera. 1000 mm f5.1 Mak-Newtonian telescope. Processed primarily in Pixinsight, with some capture one and Photolab. I used a processing application in Pixinsight to remove the stars which allow a better appreciation of the gas clouds.

This is what you call Real deep space, the real thing.
Outstanding not only as a cool nebula, as just a beautiful abstract art piece.
Great work!

Even with your 'compromise' view, Scott, I still get the awesome sense of this stunning ethereal winged creature looming overhead! If my jaw drops any further while looking at this, it will hit the floor! Without the stars, the gas clouds and colours are absolutely gorgeous. Love it!

An image to say the least superlative. It would look great printed on a full wall.

Just incredible! Gorgeous imaging. So....how long did it take for this image to reach our eyes? Are we looking at something from 1000 years ago? (My total ignorance is showing...). Anyway, a wonderful sight.

Sorry, I forgot to include the distance. It’s 7,000 light years away!

"The Eagle" has always been a challenge for me to visualize. Your image shows it well. You did a lot of work to get this one.
