260 milion years ago the sea covered the area
and so corals, sponges and molluscs formed a calcite base
with their limestone remains on top of the existing porphyry layer.

The rocks that were gradually forming were layers of limestone
and dolomites made up of hundreds of meters high,
which followed the course of the seabed and coral atolls.

65 million years ago Europe and Africa collided
making the entire structure of the Alpine Arc emerge from the sea
and the formation of the mountainous reliefs
that became the mountains of today due to atmospheric agents.

The Dolomites are colored red in the light of the sunset
thanks to the presence of the prehistoric remains of corals.

P.S. I only realize now that f/8 did not allow me
to adequately focus the mountain on the right side,
maybe an f/11 yes, as time could still be lowered by free hand, right?

I like the way the light illuminates the foreground rocks which frame the background darker layers beautifully, Mary. Very interesting information on the origins of this area, and it sounds like a good place to find fossils - I used to love looking for them when I was a child, and I still enjoy finding them now!

Interesting shot and composition.  To my eye it feels a bit "heavy" on the right side.  Cropping from the right to a 4x5 aspect ratio brings it more in balance for me.  It also would take out the slight distraction at the upper right where the background just peaks through.

Thanks E.J., I really appreciate your suggestion. :D
I find you are absolutely right, this shot is heavy on the right side which also seem to notice is not even perfectly in focus,
so I followed your suggestion and I must say that now I find this shot more interesting.  :D

I love your story about this...and agree with E.J.- the second version looks much better. I wonder if the darks could lighten up a bit more? A great place to explore!
