The Dolly Sods Wilderness has been on my bucket list and last month I finally made it there. The altitude is about 4000 ft and on this day the atmosphere changed almost by the second. The sun rose, was blocked by a heavy bank of clouds, and then this hole appeared and closed very quickly. I'm glad I turned around in time to see it! This is a manual blend of two exposures.

Just a wonderful landscape with terrific light. There's a lot to like, but I am particularly drawn to the striking blue of the sky and the red ground plant and how they play off of each other.

If you keep producing stunning images like this, again and again........I shall have to call you the light whisperer. :)   Once again, the composition, colour palette and light are quite magical.  What a pleasure to feast my eyes on, Scott!

Thank you David! This is a magical spot and even though somewhat high, you can drive 10 miles on a dirt road to get there.

Thanks! I believe the plants are both huckleberry and blueberry, and their leaves turn bright red in the fall. When the sun comes up they really light up.

Incredible shot! Love the light coming from the clouds and the beautiful contrasting reds in the closer view. Quite magical.

Really gorgeous shot and of great effect! Really amazing colors and light.
I love the contrast of the sky with the red leaves in the foreground.

Love this spot. The clouds make this one different from most. The very brightest part of the red foliage in the lower center feels a little bright for the scene to me, perhaps just a bit of burning there but overall a very nice image of a cool place.

Thanks E.J., I'm glad you liked it! Your point on burning in the bright spots is well taken. I did my best to move away from the crowds. The solitude was great but the compositions more difficult so I was grateful for the clouds.

I like the way the shape of the blue patch of sky mirrors the red vegetation below. The layering of the mountains and the sunrays shining against them make it even more special.
