Did you blend for exposure...or focus?

Both. I probably took around 20 images and selected the ones (4 in this case) that were best. I focused at 3 different planes of focus ( fg, middle, and bg) using somewhere between f/ 7.1 - 11 ( I played around a bit). I also used different shutter speeds at the different planes. I then blended using layer masks.
