Harvey,

I have a technical question... with evaluative metering, how do you know how much exposure compensation to apply? Was this the result of some bracketing and teh -2/3 frame was best. Just curious, since I would have spot metered the clouds near the tree line and opened up one stop.

In answer to your question: I bracketed the shot and in addition after a few thousand sunrises and sunsets with digital cameras underexposing seems to usually work best by really saturating the image.

I no longer have the other two shots but here's the original photo straight out of the camera and other than cropping and a bit more saturation, the finished photo is basically the same as the original.

Nice shot. I do wish for a bit more separation between the trees at the bottom.

Very nice. I don't mind the darkness of the trees at the bottom.
