Canon EOS 1D Mark 2
Canon 28-135 IS at 95mm
1/15 sec, f/8
Mode: Av
Metering: Multi-segment
Exp comp: +1/3
ISO: 400

ISO with this camera is noisy above 400, so I had no choice but to leave the background blurry. Golden reflection in water is from sunlit trees out of the frame.  The creek was in a small gorge and was in shade in that morning.

A pretty fall scene but I do wich the DOF would cover the entire scene. Not sure I understand why leaving the background blurry reduces noise - noise is not a component of focus or depth of field.... The noise is actually less noticeable on something that is in focus showing it's texture since you have fewer smooth surfaces where noise is most noticeable.

I like the splash of color and the water flow,
I too would have preferred some more dof...and perhaps some reduction of the glare on the water...was a polarizer used here?

I will explain more about DOF.  I wanted to have 1/15 sec shutter speed because I saw, upon viewing previous shots, that I could get close to stop action of the leaves on the water in the foreground at that speed, while blurring the rushing water through the narrowing.  At ISO 400 that gives F8, which isn't much DOF.  If I were to go to ISO 800 I would get greater DOF at 1/15 sec.  But I could/would not go to ISO 800 (or beyond) because the Canon EOS 1D Mark 2 would yield terribly noisy images - known by my testing.  So I was stuck with what I could do within a limited range of DOF.  I choose to make sure the foreground and middle area of rock with leaves would be the range of DOF.  With parts of the water blurry anyway the blurry background doesn't bother me or many others who purchased this as a print.
