A few days ago I posted this image in color.  It is a 2008 1D Mark 2 image which I reworked.  E.J. correctly pointed out how the dynamic range of the older equipment is no match for any of the newer bodies.  this got me thinking of compensating for this by doing a B&W conversion.  I used Silver Efex Pro, added a red filter to enhance the forest and did a few local adjustments.  In particular, I used the burn tool set at about 5% to paint into the blown highlights of the clouds.  While the burn tool on a color image drives me nuts creating grey in the white areas, the grey effect of the burn tool was acceptable in a B&W image as it helped blend the shades of gray.  Thanks for looking

the mountain layers are working nicely here...
the low clouds on the trees completes this beautiful scene ....
