One of Oregon's crown jewels has just recently taken a beating: Punch Bowl Falls in Eagle Creek, part of the Columbia River Gorge.

If you aren't aware, a couple of kids playing with fireworks set the entire area ablaze.  Reports of their careless and inconsiderate actions are infuriating.

Part of the reason I photograph is for posterity; taking images to remind me and others what things may have looked like before times of change.  Arches falling, flood waters impacting, and fires destroying the natural world around us, really drive home the delicacy and fragility of life.  During these times of loss I find a little consolation knowing that I've spent time at these places and got to know them. Sometimes it is better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all.

Lets all be mindful and careful out there!

Real nice shot of this beautiful place. Was really devastated reading about what happened here. The only reprieve, compared to a lot of the western states that have suffered fire damage, this area, with all of it's moisture, will recover much faster than places in the intermountain states will.

It is indeed a real shame and at the hands of inconsiderate humans once again. I shall never tire of seeing shots from this location though. Magestic.

A beauty Wade...thx for capturing this and giving us the opportunity to see it.
Your words ring true....I also have images of places that no longer look the same...some changed from nature...some from human meddling.

I firmly believe that fireworks should not be available to the general public. Professional display organisers only!

A beautiful image Wade.
