Image
(Orion) Bosque de Apache, New Mexico

I had decided while I was in New Mexico that I would take advantage of the dark sky conditions to experiment with some long exposures images with my D100. Taken with Noise Reduction on, this image is actually well over exposed causing little purple rings around the brightest objects.

Next time, I might try stopping down some or reducing the exposure time and taking multiple images that I can combine digitally afterwords.

Tripod/motor drive mounted Nikon D100, 50mm F1.4, ISO 400, Manual, 153 seconds @ F1.4 . Lots of work in both Capture and Photoshop

I like the purple rings. It really makes Orion stand out.

Cool shot. What kind of motor drive did you use (barn door)?
