A composite HDR image of yesterday's spectacular eclipse.  This includes crater detail on the moon reflected from earth, two visible stars, a much larger view of the corona and the diamond effect in the upper right corner.

Nicest, most artistic shot of the eclipse I've seen so far! Great job.

An amazing capture! The corona is incredibly beautiful and the 'seas' on the moon look great! Fantastic work, TFS.

An interesting image. It looks like it was taken through an eyepiece of a telescope with a right angle finder. And considering the exposure needed to get detail on the moon, I'm impressed that you were able to get stable images with that setup. (assuming I'm right about the setup.)

You actually have three stars in the image. Regulus off to the left and two dim stars off to the right.

Nicely done.

Thanks for your comments!  I actually photographed this with a Canon 7D Mark II and 500mm f4 prime lens.  I set up in full manual with auto exposure bracketing (AEB) but changed my custom function for AEB to allow for 7-shot groups instead of the default 3.  I set C1 mode with all my settings and a shutter speed starting point at 1/80 and then C2 all the same but with a shutter speed starting at 1/125.  In the moment I rapid fired the 7 images in C1 in high speed speed burst centered around the 1/80 shutter speed, quickly switched to C2 and rapid fired again in the same manor.  This gave me a wider range of exposures very quickly and rapid firing helped to counter the earth's movement as much as possible.  That made stacking the HDR set a bit easier in the end.  After that, lots of post to get the look I was after.

Thanks for also pointing out the third star.  Awesome!

Beautiful! (I need to make a note of what you did with custom functions for 2024!)
