Shot the same night and from the same location as my other Aurora shot. Thought I would do a pano and get the whole lake in. This turned out to be a monster editing project for one final image, but I had fun and learned a lot as well as refining my process.

Nikon D750
Nikkor 14-24 2.8 @14mm
ReallyRightStuff panning clamp
ISO 10,000
f/2.8
10 sec. sky
20 sec. foreground

140 images, 10 panels each made up of 14 image stacks.

Processed in LR/PS

Thanks for looking!

When it comes out good, it is worth the time :) Stunning photo especially given the super high ISO value - did you manually stack these or did you use a stacking program? That's a very large number of shots

I manually stacked them in PS. I used to shoot my night shots at a lower ISO and longer shutter, but my stars would always trail, especially in the corners. Using the high ISO, faster shutter and median stacking, I get much better results. I've found the auto-align in PS doesn't do an adequate job with star alignment for my tastes. After doing it a number of times, I can manually align almost as fast. I was a bit overly ambitious diving into this one. It was a time consumer for sure, but I discovered a few neat tricks in the process.

You must click on this one to get the full effect of this beautiful pano view Jeff, the composition is fantastic, and the overall scene is stunning! A lot of work but the end result is gorgeous. I feel a large print coming out of this!
